We are strong believers in supporting our community, giving back to our neighbors and making a positive impact and lasting difference in the lives of those around us.

We also believe that active involvement in our community plays an important role in defining who we are as service providers and leaders in our community. Our charitable work — whether through financial donations, volunteer efforts or pro bono legal work — is as important to us as it is to those who benefit from our charitable efforts.

Our Charity Work

Greene & Schultz Hoosier Half Marathon – The Hoosier Half Marathon and FTK 5K annual races are run annually in Bloomington in April. Our charitable partners in both are Indiana University Dance Marathon (IUDM) and Riley Dance Marathon. The proceeds benefit the Riley Children’s Foundation. Riley Children’s Foundation is the fundraising arm of Riley Hospital for Children. Donations are used to support pediatric research, patient programs that need additional funding, and many other outreach programs. Today, the Riley Dance Marathon program in Indiana is Riley’s fastest-growing fundraising event program, with more than 60 high school and collegiate programsDance Marathon participants showcase the best attributes of their generation through their energetic dedication to helping kids.

Shalom Community Center – Shalom is a resource center in Bloomington, Indiana for people who are living in poverty and experiencing hunger, homelessness, and a lack of access to basic life necessities. The mission of the Shalom Community Center is to aid and empower people experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Court Appointed Special Advocates – Monroe County CASA is a volunteer-powered program that provides representation in juvenile court for child victims of abuse and neglect. The program recruits, screens, trains, and supervises adult community members who volunteer their time to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). CASAs advocate for child victims to ensure that they remain at the forefront of the court proceedings and find a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.

Indiana Legal Services – A not-for-profit law firm that is the largest provider of free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income people throughout the state of Indiana. ILS helps clients who are faced with legal problems that harm their ability to have such basics as food, shelter, income, medical care or personal safety. Most of the cases ILS handles are cases such as family law where there is domestic violence, housing, consumer law, access to health care, and access to government benefits. Fred Schultz serves on the ILS Board of Directors.

Harmony School – Harmony School has been dedicated to the historic purpose of schooling: preparing young people to participate thoughtfully and actively in our democratic society. Harmony School provides a setting in which teachers, students, researchers, administrators, parents, and community members come together to develop creative yet sensible educational theories, practices, and materials.

Miracle Ride – The Miracle Ride Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization of more than 250 volunteers who are motorcycle enthusiasts from many different backgrounds who come together to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children. Every year the Miracle Ride is one of the nation’s largest and longest running motorcycle charity events. To date, the Miracle Ride has raised over $6,000,000 for Riley Hospital.

Monroe County YMCA – The Southeast YMCA was established in 1981 and has been meeting the needs of the Monroe County community one person at a time, one life-changing experience at a time. The Y is the nation’s leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Greene & Schultz were founding donors to the Capital Campaign to build a second YMCA, the Northwest YMCA, which opening in 2013. Greene & Schultz are sponsors of the spring and fall community runs.

District 10 Pro Bono Project – The District 10 Pro Bono Project provides legal services to indigent people who otherwise would not be able to obtain justice. They do so by recruiting, training and recognizing attorneys from the private bar, and helping these attorneys fulfill their pro bono obligations. The project supports lawyers in their natural role as problem solvers, so that lawyers can help lower income people create permanent solutions to issues involving shelter, income, safety, civil liberties, access to justice, and other necessities of life. Volunteers include judges, lawyers, professors, law students and other community members, all of whom work together to create better justice in our legal system and better lives for the people in our community.

Maurer School of Law at Indiana University Bloomington – Partners Betsy Greene & Fred Schultz graduated from the Indiana University School of Law Bloomington. Both volunteer to judge Moot Court and to teach the occasional class.  For the last few years, both Fred & Betsy have volunteered to help teach an Intersession class on Depositions. Betsy also serves on the Maurer School of Law Board of Visitors.
