Truckers and trucking companies can cause accidents

As the driver of a passenger vehicle, you know that there will be times when you have to share the road with truckers. This typically comes into play when you're traveling on the highway.

There are steps you can personally take to prevent an accident. For example, you should never drive in a truck's blind spot. Along with this, keep your distance from any trucker who appears to be having trouble controlling his or her vehicle.

Unfortunately, even if you take these steps, you could still be involved in a crash. Here are some of the most common causes of truck accidents:

-- A truck driver who does not obey the rules of the road. For example, many truckers are in the habit of speeding, as they want to reach their destination as quickly as possible.

-- A system of compensation that encourages less sleep and faster travel. Truck companies are responsible for this, as they are pushing drivers to their limit.

-- Drowsy driving. As you know, truckers spend many hours on the road each day. Even with federal laws in place requiring rest, some truck drivers don't pull off when they are required to do so.

If you're involved in a truck accident, you'll have time in the future to learn why this happened and how you can protect your legal rights. Before that, you need to focus on your health and wellbeing. Once you've been treated and once you know your injuries and the impact on your life, you can then look into how you can receive compensation for your injuries and other damages.
