As one of our Indiana readers, you are well aware of the fact that the fall season is beautiful throughout the state. You are probably also aware of the fact that the fall months bring many challenges to the local roadways.

It’s imperative that you become familiar with the many dangers of fall driving, as you don’t want to make a mistake that could put you in a compromising position. Consider the following hazards:

  • Additional traffic. Now that school is back in session, there will be more vehicles on the road. In addition to parents taking children to and from school, school buses are everywhere during the morning and afternoon hours.
  • Rain and strong wind. During the fall season, you should expect the rain and wind to pick up. This should definitely change your approach when you are behind the wheel.
  • Leaves. As leaves begin to litter the roadways, they can make for slick patches. So, if you see matted leaves ahead of you, be sure to slow down and take extra caution.
  • Fog. There is nothing better than the feel of a cool fall morning. While you may enjoy the feel, remember this: It often leads to thick fog that can make it a challenge to see other vehicles.
  • Sun glare. The summer months may be in the past, but that doesn’t mean the sun glare is gone forever.

Now that you are familiar with these common dangers of fall driving, it’s time to make changes to your approach to improve your safety.

While doing so, remember one thing: Other drivers may not take the same level of care. For this reason, you could still be part of an accident.

If you find yourself in a car crash, move your car to safety and call for help. You’ll want to receive immediate medical attention. From there, you can learn more about your legal rights, such as if you can receive compensation from the negligent driver.
