Regardless of how hard you try, there will come a time when you find yourself navigating the roads in heavy traffic. In this situation, you have a few options. You can be patient, knowing that nothing you do is going to help or you can lose your patience and begin to do things that are uncharacteristic of how you typically drive.

If you find yourself stuck in heavy traffic, here are some tips you can follow to remain safe:

— Never drive in an aggressive manner. You may think that this will help you make up time, but it’s actually increasing the likelihood of causing an accident.

— Stay in your lane. There may come a time when you need to change lanes, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, you don’t want to jump from one lane to the next in an attempt to make up time.

— Don’t become distracted. When traffic is heavy and you’re sitting for long periods of time, it’s easy to lose focus. Although you may be tempted to check email on your smartphone or send a text message, you need to avoid this.

In a perfect world, you would never find yourself stuck in heavy traffic. In the real world, this is not likely to happen. Even if you attempt to avoid this, there is no way of doing so for sure.

If you find yourself in the unenviable spot of being involved in a traffic accident, do your best to move your car to safety. From there, call an ambulance and the police if necessary.
